MSC is seeking an innovative, flexible, strong and confident manager with a solid understanding of grass roots organizations and racial and social justice movements to be an integral part of a small management team. Overview
Movement Strategy Center (MSC) is seeking a full time Managing Director for the organization to manage the meeting of organizational goals, manage the day-to-day budgetary and financial aspects of the organization, and actively participate in the coordination and support of MSC’s service delivery.
 

About Movement Strategy Center
The Movement Strategy Center has been a thought and service delivery leader in movement building since it’s founding in 2001. Movement Building is a discipline of community work that seeks to increase the capacity of individuals, organizations, and alliances dedicated to base building in specific geographic or issue areas to work together towards achieving a shared agenda. MSC prioritizes organizations that are membership driven and work primarily with low-income communities of color.

MSC delivers a focus range of intensive services including: alliance building, training, facilitation, curriculum development, organizational development and strategic planning to selected groups, coalitions and organizations that:

  • Anchor strategic alliances in key sectors of the racial justice movement; or
  • Have potential to develop alliances in the near future; or
  • Support a wide range of movement building organizations through philanthropy or technical assistance.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the organizational budget and cash flow
  • Along with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director assist in the development and attainment of organizational goals and benchmarks
  • Manage all organizational contracts 
  • Directly supervise and support non-program staff
  • Support the group accountability model of staff involved in service delivery
  • Support the continuing evaluation of MSC services
  • Contribute to and be accountable for the organization running smoothly and with excellence

 

Qualifications

Movement Strategy Center seeks candidates who are dedicated to social justice, excel at problem solving and planning, have strong management skills and enjoy a dynamic and flexible work environment. The Managing Director must have:

  • 5 years of program or organizational management experience
  • High level of comfort and skill with budgeting and analysis
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance and meet qualitative and quantitative goals in equal measure
  • A demonstrated commitment to delivering excellent results and forging productive relationships with colleagues.
  • Adaptive and creative approach to organizational challenges
