POSITION: Senior Associate: Transformational Movement Building

This Senior Associate will work with the MSC team and our partners to strengthen the social justice movement by incorporating spirit and sustainability into leadership development, organizational change, and organizing practice. They will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with MSC lead staff and to partner with grassroots organizations, intermediaries, and foundations building a more strategic, collaborative, and sustainable movement.

They will work with other MSC staff to integrate spirit and sustainability into all our program areas and inspire and train partners who want to transform the way we work for social change. This Senior Associate will lead a team of MSC staff, integrating transformational practice into alliance-building and capacity-building projects with groups across the country. This team will also research transformational movement building, produce a report profiling work in the field, and develop tools and curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with grassroots organizing and campaigns, including experience building power within communities of color.
  • Commitment to racial justice and broader progressive values.
  • Established personal practice of reflection and development, and experience working at the intersection of social justice and spirituality.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate the MSC’s mission and vision, and to document successful models.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a highly motivated and diverse team.


Compensation: The salary for this 100% FTE exempt position will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The benefits package includes exceptional vacation and health care benefits, including family/domestic partner benefits.

POSITION: Senior Associate: Sector and Alliance Building

This Senior Associate will have the opportunity to work with other MSC lead staff, leading our Movement Sector Intensive and Alliance Building work across the country. MSC supports leaders and organizations to build their capacity to design, launch, and facilitate alliances. We also partner with other movement-building intermediaries and foundations to support strategic alliances led by grassroots groups.

Key Activities:


Coordinate the Movement Sector Intensive Program (MSI):
MSC currently provides support to anchor groups within the education, media, reproductive, and environmental justice sectors. The Senior Associate will work with a team of MSC staff to support leaders in these sectors to design, facilitate, and implement alliances and strategic initiatives. They will also help foster more sustainable practices in each sector.

Design Place-Based Initiatives and Alliances:
The Senior Associate will lead MSC’s alliance-building team in supporting grassroots leaders to develop place-based strategic alliances with a long-term vision for building power in communities and regions. They will support organizations to include electoral strategies in their issue-based work, connect different groups around shared values and goals, and build a strong culture of collaboration and sustainability. Support Field Building for Justice:
In collaboration with other MSC staff, they will work with foundations to develop strategies, programs, and initiatives that support movement building. Specifically, they will support foundations to align their strategies with those of grassroots movement leaders and alliances.

Training And Curriculum:
The Senior Associate will be responsible for and continuing the development of MSC’s alliance building tools and curriculum. They will also use these tools to train groups across the country.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to racial justice , transformational organizing, and broad progressive values.
  • Experience leading organizations at the executive or program leadership levels.
  • Experience with community or labor organizing, including building power in communities of color.
  • Experience designing, leading, and facilitating alliances or coalitions.
  • Strong speaking and writing skills. Ability to communicate the MSC’s mission and vision, and to document successful models.
  • Training and curriculum development.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a highly motivated and diverse team.
