Organizational Development

We believe that organizations are vital mechanisms for creating social change because they serve as places to engage individuals, provide needed services, develop leaders, and hone long-term strategy. As organizations clarify their goals, they increase their capacity to engage in broad-based collaboration within and across sectors. These strategic collaborations are integral building blocks for strong social movements.

Our Organizational Development work is grounded in our commitment to building a movement that is more strategic, collaborative and sustainable. MSC has developed a unique method for organizational development that values peoples’ hearts as well as their minds. We provide tools, training, ritual and curriculum to help groups heal from oppression and trauma and work more effectively for social change.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

Our Organizational Development Program provides direct support to key partner organizations that are working with other groups to implement a movement-building strategy. MSC hosts a network of Associates who are trained in MSC’s tools and curriculum, and provide direct organizational development support. You may contact them directly or email MSC to request a referral.

Our Organizational Development services include:

Strategic Planning and Program Design
We work with groups and alliances to develop movement-based strategic plans in which they identify their theory of change and strategic priorities, align their vision and values, and create a plan for operational implementation. We also work with groups to design new organizing models, programs and initiatives.

Facilitation
Our staff and Associates have extensive experience facilitating groups and alliances through decision-making processes, agenda setting, strategy development and planning. We help set realistic organizational and group development goals, with an eye toward the relationship between the group’s capacity and what we hope to achieve through the process.

Training
Staff and Associates provide training around key organizational development issues including decision making, group development, facilitation, agenda setting, process design and meeting planning. We build the group’s capacity to understand and make decisions about the growth, structure and culture of their organization.

Documentation
MSC has documented our Organizational Development methodology, tools and curricula to share with groups and allies across the country.
